Zebra Poetry Film Festival Presents

Best shorts from the Zebra Poetry Film Festival, a platform showcasing short films based on poetry since 2002, brought to Kino Otok by its producer, Berlin-based Haus für Poesie.  

Since 2002, Haus für Poesie has organized the Zebra Poetry Film Festival, presenting international poetry films in a wide range of forms — from documentary and experimental works to animation — all based on poems. 

At its core is an international competition. Each year, an open call attracts 800 to 1,600 submissions from around 100 countries. Up to 20 films are selected for the competition, with three prizes awarded by an international jury. Around 60 additional films are shown in curated programs. 

Education is a key focus. Through its Zebrino program, part of Poetry in Education, the festival engages children and young people with poetry film via workshops and screenings. A children’s jury awards a fourth prize. 

Zebra’s curated programs are also presented at partner festivals worldwide, fostering an international dialogue between poetry and film. Kino Otok will show a diverse selection of 11 short films inspired by poetry: 

Een Olifant in de Porseleinkast (An Elephant in the Porcelain Cabinet), Extremely Short, JAH! (YES!), Tiriba (Cleanliness), Fitzgerald & Rimini – D Frou Bovary de Porrentru (Fitzgerald & Rimini – Mrs. Bovary from Porrentruy), You Are the Truck and I Am the Deer, Noromance, Meanwhile, somewhere in the state of Colorado, Un Corpo (A Body), Battery, The posh mums are boxing in the square. 

Thomas Zandegiacomo Del Bel is an artistic director and curator based in Berlin. He is the Artistic Director of the Zebra Poetry Film Festival at Haus für Poesie. His work focuses on poetry, film, and interdisciplinary formats. He previously worked at ZKM | Center for Art and Media and is currently active in education and outreach at Deutsche Kinemathek, with a focus on international collaboration and audience development.
