Common Pear, Gregor Božič, Slovenia, 2025, 15’
In a not-too-distant future ravaged by climate crisis, a team of scientists analyses the archival footage of farmers from the past, in an attempt to understand their connection to the land.
“In this beautifully shot blend of documentary and fiction, Gregor Božič pays warm tribute to the old growers of the Goriška region in Western Slovenia, who appreciated fruit as more than merely a product for sale.” – Ivan Ramljak
Gregor Božič (1984) works as a director, scriptwriter and cinematographer. After graduating from film schools in Ljubljana and Berlin, he enrolled in the postgraduate programme at Le Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains. As a director of photography, he collaborates with filmmakers from across the region such as Matjaž Ivanišin, Igor Bezinović and Nebojša Slijepčević. Since 2008, he has been researching old and endemic fruit varieties. In collaboration with farmers from the Italo-Slovene borderland, he planted a gene-bank orchard and wrote a book listing each variety found and the stories connected with them.
La Jetée, Chris Marker, France, 1962, 28’
A nuclear disaster almost wipes life off the face of the Earth. The few survivors explore time travel to recover the necessities of life from the past. A faint memory from early childhood is the criterion for the selection of the protagonist who will embark on a journey back in time.
One of the most beautiful short films of all time, composed almost entirely of still photographs. Science fiction, war film, disaster film, metaphysical thriller and love drama.
“It was a kind of automatic writing. /…/ I started photographing a story that I didn’t quite understand; it was only during the editing that the pieces came together. I wasn’t the one who put the puzzle together, so it’s hard to be proud of it.” – Chris Marker
The screening will be followed by a discussion with Marina Gumzi and Gregor Božič.
With the support of Institut français.
