Mobility constantly signals change: as one moves through space, time moves as well, and when one looks back, nothing behind them has remained as it was before. Friday’s programme thus explores movements through the public spaces of various cities, political and social shifts within countries and communities, and personal shifts determined by psychological and physical states. In the Slovak experimental film How to Listen to Fountains, we stroll through Bratislava’s public space and explore its diversity with the aim of becoming more aware and appreciative of it. In the animated film Some Things Are a Sign, But Some Aren’t, we follow the protagonist riding a Ljubljana city bus. The French comedy No Skate! also takes us through a city, this time Paris during the Olympics. In the documentary Preventive Attack, the filmmaker returns to Jordan after seven years and, while searching for the past, confronts a new reality. The experimental film Deconstruction explores a journey through one’s personal experience of the world. Two animated films take a humorous look at body changes: S the Wolf, an Egyptian film about baldness, and Caries, a Swiss film about dental hygiene. The live-action film A Fistful of Feathers, part western and part comedy, depicts a father who becomes a stranger in his own family environment. The feeling of being a stranger in one’s own environment is also explored in the animated film Fačuk, in which a community ostracizes a young pregnant woman because she is about to give birth to an illegitimate child. Another film depicting mobility and the change of condition is Peaceful Protest, which, through the story of Alexei Navalny, illustrates the shift in a country’s social atmosphere from protest to fear, exile, and war.
