Some people are loved and live on in the minds of their friends, while others remain invisible and may now be seen for the first time. Thursday’s programme intertwines the themes of love, absence, invisibility, and disappearance. In the heartfelt documentary How I Waited for the Sun, loved ones remember their friend, partner and colleague Vilko Filač through anecdotes and memories, supported by archive material from filming sessions and scenes from his films. The director of Letter to a Friend thinks of her friend who is far away, expressing her genuine, graceful affection for her in a lyrical animation. The same feelings of longing and affection are expressed in From Peter to Aida, in which Peter searches for his (possibly) lost love Aida, whom he met during a holiday in Croatia. In the poetic essay You Are the Truck and I Am the Deer, a victim speaks about the pain caused by others, thus coming to the fore and occupying the space that belongs to them. In a poetic farewell to the protagonist’s own vision, Husky expresses the feeling of missing a time that is still there but will soon be gone. It takes us on a sensual walk through a city full of details that, being indifferent, one might overlook. Through the testimonies of people who use AI to teach self-driving cars to see, Their Eyes raises the topic of invisible labour. Meanwhile, Isthmus discusses the work and life of a fisherman on vast seas, and We Were No Desert brings us to the vast Argentinian landscape, to listen to the testimonies of outcasts and the invisible.
