In today’s social conditions, the privilege of space is extremely fragile. On the one hand, it is undermined by the housing crisis and the lack of affordable living spaces, pushing people into personal hardship. Meanwhile, in the broader context, space is being aggressively taken away from entire communities. Public, private, cultural, and geographical spaces are gradually shrinking and disappearing. The housing crisis is addressed in the Croatian documentary Housing Problem, in which the protagonist tries to find a new, decent rental apartment. In Suiside Fish, young musicians are temporarily left without a rehearsal space and seek a quick, guerrilla-style solution. The Lithuanian fiction film Concrete Kids depicts the struggle for one’s own space in a high-rise housing estate. Welcome Home foregrounds the protagonist’s alienation from the place where she grew up. The documentary Etaf follows a Palestinian woman living in Slovenia as she recalls life in her native Gaza before the bombing began to destroy it. things that i was gathering is a film about the objects the filmmaker brings to her friends imprisoned in Russia for opposing the war, as a result of which they have lost the right to their own space. Through a photograph from Gaza, Last Shot explores the duality of the discourse on global conflicts. The programme ends with a humorous journey across the Slovenian mountaintops in The Ninth Peak, which reopens the space and reveals its hidden spots.
