Towards Zero Waste
In 2022, Kino Otok was the first Slovenian film festival to move towards zero waste. While this doesn’t mean that the festival produces no waste at all, we aim to reduce its amount as much as possible and do our best sorting it. To deliver on our environmental ambition, we have teamed up with Ecologists Without Borders, a national zero-waste organisation that helps local communities, event organisers and tourism service providers take steps towards waste prevention.
Adopting a zero-waste commitment was the starting point for our efforts to reduce the adverse environmental impacts of our operations through sustainable energy use, procurement of products and services, waste management, and mobility. Our green practices also include raising audience awareness, measuring and monitoring the festival’s environmental impact, and capacity building.
Last year, we added sustainability to the key pillars of our operations, taking into account four fundamental aspects of this postulate: cultural, social, environmental, and economic. We now continue the process by devising a plan for content and organisational development that is balanced, viable, sustainable, and culturally, socially and environmentally responsible
