The stages of growing up and the life stages of individuals – and of society – are the key themes of Wednesday’s programme. As the protagonists form their own identities, existential questions about the meaning of growing up and adult relationships pervade their lives. The girl in The Singers is fascinated by growing up, while the boy in Beyond the Face is frightened. In the process of building the foundations of their own lives, the protagonists face both personality disorders (Rats with Flowery Hats) and social pressures (I Did Not Stop the Entire Day and No Time). The films offer varying perspectives on facing such challenges, or simply observe and comment on them. Oops! exposes the amoral dilemmas of the two protagonists and challenges the viewer’s inability to identify with them. At the end of the journey through human transformations, we are confronted with two possible scenarios: if Vox Humana is about a person’s self-elimination from society, in The Future… Is Just Like You Imagined, we observe a society that is slowly eliminating humanity.
