Call for an International Group of Young Programmers at the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema Festival
High school and university students aged between 16 and 26 are invited to participate in the 21st edition of Kino Otok – Isola Cinema not only as viewers but also as young film programmers. Between 4 and 8 June, they will watch several festival films in Izola and select one to be included in the summer touring Cinema Istria, which will take place in Slovenian Istria during the summer months. Applications are open until 26 May!
At the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema festival in Izola, members of the international group of young programmers, aged between 16 and 26, will watch several festival films, have in-depth discussions and share critical reflections in the company of their mentors and, from the guest filmmakers, learn first-hand about all the details of the creative process. They will consider the watched films as comprehensively as possible – as art and a creative expression but also as a means and a starting point for a better understanding of society and the world. On the last day of the festival, they will select one of the festival films to be included in Cinema Istria, a summer touring cinema that will take place in Slovenian Istria during the summer months.
What we expect from the young film programmers: to watch the selected films, participate in the discussions with their mentors and the filmmakers, prepare a presentation text about the selected film and other promotional materials as agreed and present the selected film to the audience at a screening of the Cinema Istria programme.
What the young film programmers get: free participation in and accreditation to the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema festival, which enables access to all festival screenings in Izola, and mentorship. We also offer stimulating company, a sea of films and many different perspectives.
Participation is free of charge and applications will be accepted until Monday, 26 May via the online application form(choose the English-language option in the form). Activities will be held in English and the number of participants is limited. For more information, please contact meri.viler@isolacinema.org.
The activities of young programmers are prepared as part of Young Programmers for Young Audiences! European Film Festival Network, a European project that takes place at festivals in six European countries, with the support of Creative Europe MEDIA. More about the project.
